A Sisterly Way-A MLPFiM Fanfic

As Rainbow Dash's house started to glimmer in the distance, young Scootaloo's heart stopped. The sudden realization that this would be the last few minutes she had with her idol before she moved made a tear slip into her round purple eye. But she swallowed it down, like always.

"Scoot, you don't want Dash to see you being a wimp. She's only going to be... Halfway across Equestria..." She thought to herself as they approached the older pegasus' front door. Scootaloo swallowed her pain again, and braced herself for the goodbye she never wanted to experience.

"Here we are, Squirt! Thanks so much for coming with me, you turned a little errand into a blast! I think you're the only filly who'd ever sit through me looking at wing creams for eighty years. Don't tell Rarity, but I'm very very particular about that stuff." Rainbow said with a wink. She could see the anguish in her little fan's eyes, but tried to make her smile it off.

"Uh… Dash? When… when will I see you again? I know school is gonna be busy for you, but I'm already missing you and you're standing right there…" Scootaloo said quietly, trying her hardest not to let a whimper slip.

"Oh, I'll be around! Don't worry kiddo. I'm coming back to all of Ponyville's flying competitions, so I expect you to be there! School won't be that tough! You can come by my dorm anytime."

The little orange pegasus let a sheepish smile show across her otherwise devastated face. "I… I have something for you…"

"You do? Cool!" Rainbow's ears perked up as she looked down tenderly at Scoot.

"C-close your eyes…" Dash could feel something go around her neck. It was a medallion, on a rainbow ribbon. Now it was her turn to swallow down tears as she looked down to see "RAINBOW DASH:  BEST PONY IN ECWESDREEA" etched messily on the gold plastic circle.

"Wow… this is totally awesome, dude. Thanks so much! I really like it." She said putting a gentle hoof onto Scootaloo's little shoulder. "I hate to say it, but I gotta get packing. I'm supposed to have my whole bedroom done by now, but I haven't even started! Silly me, eh?" She could see the faint grin the filly had fade while she said this. "I'm so sorry, Squirt."

Scootaloo threw herself onto Dash, startling her. As she heard her little buddy start to cry, she knew this goodbye would be harder for her than the she thought earlier. "She's, she's so much like Firefly… No, Dash. No filly will ever be to me what Firefly was." The blue pegasus thought to herself.

She could feel the tears starting to come, but didn't stop them. It was a tender, bittersweet moment that neither pony would forget for the rest of their lives.

Scootaloo sat on her bedside, planning out a routine for the Filly Flyers competition, which would be held in a week from now. She flexed her tiny wings as she thought up different loops and dives that she could perform.

"Rainbow Dash is coming, so it has to be perfect. I need to make her proud! Now, what would make the best flyer in Equestria proud of little ol' me? I KNOW!" Her ears and wings pricked up as she talked to herself. "I can perform a SONIC RAINBOOM! Dash would think I was the coolest filly in the world! And… maybe she'd think of me as a sister… That'd be a dream come true! Tomorrow morning, we're practicing that rainboom, wings!"

The filly fell asleep with a grin on her face, anticipating the morning ahead of her. She was going to make history!

While Scootaloo dreamt of flying like her idol, Rainbow Dash was still up, packing her bathroom. She couldn't get the little girl's words out of her head, and would not keep her eyes off that medallion.

"Look, Dash. You made a promise to your little sister, and you won't break it. If you call Scoots your sis, than you'll be not fulfilling a little filly's dying wish. Smarten up and stop thinking about that kid." She muttered to herself.

As she packed the wing cream Scootaloo helped her buy, she could feel more tears coming. "C'mon, dude. You're moving to ColtVille, and going to the elusive Flyerdan college! There's no filly that can get in the way of that. You auditioned like, seven times for this and you're gonna do it. Don't be a wimp!" She almost yelled, getting more emotional by the minute.

Flyerdan was her dream, the Wonderbolts all studied there. Dash fluttered over to her wall, where a collection of Wonderbolt posters and memorabilia hung on her wall. She had spent hours on this, and the minute she learned where they studied, she wanted to go. Her dream was coming true. She touched the little scrap of an old Wonderbolt costume piece she acquired, and realized it was Scootaloo that had given that to her for Christmas last year. The poor kid had gone out of her way to find it, and now she knew she was denying what the filly wanted for another special little girl.

No matter how hard she tried, Rainbow Dash just couldn't get that image of little Firefly crying over her out of her head, and the way she said "I love you, Sis" the very last time out of her ears.
